'Criminal Minds' season 12 spoilers, plot news: Agent Emily Prentiss returns in episode 3; Paget Brewster talks about her anticipated comeback
The Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) team welcomes back agent Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) in the upcoming episode of CBS' hit procedural drama "Criminal Minds" season 12.
Titled "Taboo," tomorrow's episode will see the return of the famed Interpol agent. The official synopsis for episode 3 doesn't give too much away, but it notes that Emily will join the team in the field as they are all called upon to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three women,
For the uninitiated, Brewster last appeared in "Criminal Minds" as a series regular back in 2012. Since then, she has come back for some episodes as a recurring character, and season 12 will mark her return as a regular again. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonght, Brewster admits she and her co-stars couldn't be more excited about the reunion.
"She's been running Interpol for four years and now it's just really nice to be back on the team full-time," the actress said, referring to what Prentiss has been up to over the last several years. "So far, they've made [Prentiss] powerful and good at the job and invested."
The 47-year-old was initially slated to appear in just six episodes this season, but she was immediately promoted. Executive producer Erica Messer previously revealed that they wanted Brewster to be back for more episodes "because she's a fan favorite" and all the people working in the series "love and miss her so much."
Star A.J. Cook, who plays the role of JJ in the program, also caught up with the media outlet and shared her thoughts on how "Criminal Minds" stays as one of the most-watched series despite the many on-screen changes.
"We're finding new personalities that fit into this machine that works really well and we've been lucky enough to find those pieces," she explained.
The 12th season of "Criminal Minds" airs every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
