JJ (A.J. Cook) will handle a rough case about child abduction in the upcoming episode of long-running CBS cop drama "Criminal Minds" season 12.

Titled "Sick Day," the next week's episode will see one member of the team become affected by a rough case. When JJ arrives home after investigating on an abduction case, the shaken officer breaks down and tells her husband about the two children who were taken by unknown suspects.

On this season of "Criminal Minds," actor Adam Rodriguez is portraying the newest member of FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. The "CSI: Miami" alum joins the program as a regular, playing the role of Luke Alvez—a specialist in the field of fugitive recovery who decided to work with the FBI after being in the military. The timing of Alvez's arrival is perfect, since the BAU needs all the help they can get following the massive prison break in the season 11 finale. He previously captured one of the fugitives, Daniel Cullen, and he is hell-bent on locking him up again for good.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Rodriguez hinted that the season has now become a "chase of minds" because the team must learn how the perpetrators think, in order to capture them. As for his thoughts on being the newest member of the crew, the CBS veteran said he is looking forward to seeing his character grow.

"You're not getting somebody that's coming in as an expert just jumping into the mix," he explained. "You're going to watch Luke work his butt off to try and catch up to these people that are already so great at what they do. I think it'll be fun to watch this guy do what he does and have the skill set that he does to add to the team, but at the same time, have to learn from them as well."

The 12th season of "Criminal Minds" airs every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
