'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' season 2 air date, cast news: Lea Salonga to return next season; Brittany Snow to join the cast?

After a successful pilot season, The CW's romantic musical comedy series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" is working on a strong comeback to keep the audience hooked for good. Rumors say that Tony Award winner Lea Salonga will be returning for the forthcoming season. "Pitch Perfect" star Brittany Snow will also reportedly join the cast for season 2.
For the uninitiated, the show follows the life of Rebecca (Rachel Bloom), a full-fledged New Yorker who is living the dream. She works at a prestigious law firm which enables her to live a high-class life in a gorgeous Manhattan apartment. Her seemingly perfect life is missing something but she thinks her former lover might just be the missing piece. Rebecca transfers to a Los Angeles suburb, where her ex lives, to pursue love and happiness.
Sources suggest that Salonga who portrayed Aunt Myrna in the previous season will possible return for season 2. Salonga sang "One Describable Instant" during Jayma's (Tess Paras) wedding reception. The theatre actress is known for her role in "Miss Saigon," which earned her a Tony and a Laurence Olivier Award.
Moreover, Snow will also join the cast and she will do a musical number that is somehow similar to her musical endeavors in "Pitch Perfect." Snow and Bloom, who is also an executive producer of the show, teased fans about the new character's role in the upcoming season. Bloom revealed that Snow will be doing a "super high production value music video."
Snow will reportedly play a character who is also in love with Rebecca's former flame, Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III). To recap, the season finale revealed that Rebecca and Josh slept together. It remains unclear whether Rebecca and Josh will pursue the relationship next season or if Snow will pose as a rival before the former couple can actually get back together.
Fans of the show will get their answers in the second season of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," which will premiere on Friday, Oct. 21, at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
