'Crackdown 3' release date, news: Xbox's Phil Spencer assures fans that game is still in development

Though the game was announced back in 2014 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), news has been scarce for the third installment of Microsoft's "Crackdown" franchise. The good news for fans, however, is that the game is not dead. Phil Spencer of Xbox has given an update for "Crackdown 3" online.
Replying to a fan's question on Twitter, Spencer assured the user that the game is definitely in the works. Josh Luck wrote, "Phil no need to go into details but the Xbox community wanna know..... Is Crackdown 3 still alive and well?" Spencer replied, "Yep, saw a build the other day, looked good. One thing I love about CD, you know it from a single frame, look is iconic."
Some comments on the same post have also expressed that "Crackdown 3" would do well as a launch title for Xbox's incoming Project Scorpio, but there have been no replies from Spencer.
According to reports, the game will be an Xbox Play Anywhere Title, and fans should expect a release in 2017. "Crackdown" and "Crackdown 2" were considered to be very popular for the Xbox 360, but no installment of the franchise has made it to the next-gen Xbox One. The multiplayer mode for "Crackdown 3" is also said to use Microsoft Azure to enhance its capabilities, so fans have that to look forward to when the game finally comes out.
Since the game is from Microsoft, fans can be sure that the game will be available on platforms like the Xbox One and Windows 10 — much to the dismay of anyone who owns a Playstation.
No official release date has been announced for "Crackdown 3," but fans are expecting the game (or at least another update) to find its way to fans in 2017. Stay tuned for more news on "Crackdown 3."
