Convicted Rapist 'Gift From God,' Mother Tells Judge

A man found guilty of raping a 92-year-old nursing home patient has been described as a "gift from God" by his mother.

Samuel Onyenweaku, who previously worked at the Deer Park's Amber Park Nursing Home in Ohio, was convicted this week of raping a 92-year-old female patient when he worked as a nurse's aide at the home in November 2013.

As Onyenweaku now faces sentencing for charges of rape, felonious assault and patient abuse, his mother, Rachael Onyenweaku, told Judge Melba Marsh of the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court that her son is a "gift from God," saying that he, as her only child, took care of her as she aged.

"He is my life, my heart," Samuel's mother told Judge Marsh, according to Cincinnati.com. "My son is a good boy." The 22-year-old convict is originally from Nigeria, but began working several different jobs when he came to the U.S. with his mother a few years back.

Regardless of his mother's plea, the 22-year-old from West Chester was sentenced to a jail imprisonment of 11 years this week for raping the 92-year-old patient. Back in November, a nurse working at the Deer Park nursing home had found Onyenweaku hiding in the bathroom of the victimized patient, while the patient was naked from the waist down and bleeding from the genitals. Onyenweaku's semen was found on the patient and in her vagina, investigators say.

According to Cincinnati's local ABC News affiliate, the victim of Onyenweaku's attack was a former former school teacher and widow who suffered from severe dementia and was bedridden. She was unable to communicate the rape, and died shortly after the incident took place.
