Two new characters will be joining USA's hit science fiction drama "Colony" when season 2 premieres next year.

"Ugly Betty" star Tony Plana and "Black Sails" actress Jessica Parker Kennedy are the newest additions to "Colony," and they will both be playing recurring roles for the show. According to Entertainment Weekly, Plana will portray the new proxy of the LA bloc named Alcala. Contrary to Snyder's (Peter Jacobson) personality, he is a scheming politician who is very charismatic which makes him fit the job perfectly. Alcala plays the role of a leader who sympathizes and helps people going through a rough time but behind closed doors, he is a heartless individual who will do anything it takes just to hold onto his position.

Kennedy, on the other hand, will play a bold woman named Maya. She works at a hidden labor camp and similar to Plana, she is more than willing to risk her security for what she truly believes in. The media outlet notes that Maya's personality is always linked to "danger" and "seduction."

Set in a futuristic Los Angeles where people are under a military-type government, "Colony" took the idea of extra-terrestrial invasion to a different level. After an intense first season, spoiler reports say that the new storyline will feature the characters scattered all around as they face bigger threats.

Season 2 will reportedly be darker and expansive, in the sense that the story will not just be about the Bowman family. Apart from battling with outsiders, heads of the Bowmans family will also experience having conflicts as they argue on the best option for everyone's safety. The plot will also feature the different angles of oppression, particularly in terms of intellectual exploitation.

"Colony" season 2 is expected to premiere next year on USA, but the network has yet to announce an official release date.
