'Code Black' season 2 spoilers news: Series creator addresses outrage over major changeup, casting underway for two new main characters

Hit medical drama "Code Black" will kick off its second season later this year with a lot of changes in the show.
Fans took their outrage to social media after it was recently confirmed that two main characters will not return for season 2: Bonnie Somerville (Dr. Christa Lorenson) and Raza Jaffrey (Dr. Neal Hudson). Series creator Michael Seitzman admitted that he was sad to see the two actors go, but he asked fans to give him an opportunity to prove that the major changeup will work. "No answer I give will be satisfying.... It sucks. Nobody — nobody — enjoyed this. Decisions like this aren't easy and are very complex," Seitzman said. He also assured fans that the departure of two characters does not mean the end for the show. "Most of the cast is still here. And I'm going to work hard to make you love the newbies," he added.
To fill the void left by Somerville and Jaffrey, casting is currently underway for two new characters to join the mix. A new female doctor named Charlotte Piel will soon be walking in the halls of Angels Memorial Hospital. TV Line notes that the character has loose ties with the "Harry Potter" universe. She was a former child actress who starred in a famous movie, and according to the casting notice, the character in inspired by Hermione Granger from "Harry Potter." Charlotte gave up acting to pursue a career in the medical field as a doctor, and she will have difficulties finding others to treat her seriously.
Meanwhile, Dr. Leanne Rorish will be having a male counterpart named Colonel David Willis to spice up her romantic life. David is in his 40s, and he is described as "heroic, blunt, irreverent, and rule-breaking." Leanne and David will cross paths when the Colonel goes to the hospital to teach "new war-tested techniques" to the medical staff.
Who will be the new faces in Angels Memorial Hospital? Stay tuned for all-new episodes of "Code Black" season 2 which premieres this coming Sept. 21 on CBS.
