'Code Black' season 2 spoilers news: CBS officially greenlights sophomore season, EP speaks on the medical drama's success

Rookie medical drama "Code Black" may have ended its freshman run just a few months ago, but it's never too early to talk about what comes next for the popular TV series.
The series was officially renewed by CBS last week, which was not surprising at all since the show garnered mostly positive reviews for its first season. In an interview with Fansided, executive producer Michael Seitzman discussed the series' success and why the best is yet to come. "I think that the show grew up over the course of the season," Seitzman said. "I'm proud of the whole season, but I do think that we really began to discover what the show wants to be. I do feel like the people who made an assumption about the show in the beginning because they thought it's another ER or it's another Grey's Anatomy or a pale reflection of one of those shows, I think they should take another look at it."
For the uninitiated, "Code Black" takes place in an understaffed and overcrowded emergency room located in Los Angeles, California. The plot is loosely based on a documentary by Ryan McGarry of the same title. The main cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Raza Jaffrey, Bonnie Somerville, Melanie Chandra, William Allen Young, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, and Luis Guzman. According to The Nielsen Company, the medical drama had an average of 7.114 million viewers and 1.27 rating in the 18-49 demo for its first season.
What should fans expect from season 2? As of the moment, details about the plot are still being kept under wraps. However, the story might pick up on the events after the emotional finale. Angus' addiction to Adderall was finally exposed, and it's starting to negatively affect his work. How he'll get through his addiction will possibly be explored further next season. Elsewhere, Christa turned down Neal's proposal after overhearing his ex -girlfriend talk about a trip they were supposed to go to back when they were still together. It remains to be seen if the couple will still get back together or not.
As of this writing, CBS has yet to officially announce a premiere date for "Code Black" season 2.
