Former "American Idol" runner up Clay Aiken has spoken out on the recent celebrity nude photo hacking scandal, saying that anyone who takes inappropriate photos of themselves deserves what they get.

Aiken, who is currently running for a North Carolina congressional seat, told The Washington Post that although he thinks the perpetrators of the recent hack should be brought justice, he also believes the celebrities shouldn't have been taking the nude photos in the first place.

"Anybody who takes inappropriate pictures of themselves deserves exactly what they get," Aiken told the news outlet.

"Of course whoever [stole and released the photos] should be hogtied," he continued. "And it's unfortunate that we don't have Internet security right now or the laws in place to protect people from pirating that stuff."

Recently, hackers associated with the image sharing website 4Chan posted several nude photos stolen from celebrities' iCloud accounts. Some of the nude images included A List celebrities such as Kate Upton, Jennifer Lawrence, Aubrey Plaza, and Kirsten Dunst, among many others.

A second wave of nude photos was leaked this week, including photos of pop singer Ariana Grande, singer Avril Lavigne and socialite Kim Kardashian.

The Washington Post wrote a profile on Aiken as he prepares his race for a democratic congressional seat. The profile reports that Aiken has a difficult road ahead of him, as he is running in the state's 2nd District that contains an overwhelmingly Republican voter base. The article reports that only 41 percent of voters chose president Obama during his 2012 election.
