Christian University Under Fire For Hosting Bill Cosby Benefit Dinner

A Christian university in West Tennessee is standing by its decision to have embattled comedian Bill Cosby speak at an upcoming benefit dinner, despite the multiple allegations of rape against the well-known celebrity.
Freed-Hardeman University, a private Christian college in Henderson, Tennessee, has continued to stand by its decision to have comedian Bill Cosby speak at an upcoming benefit dinner on December 5. Cosby, as self-identified Christian, is most famous for his stand-up comedy routine and role as Dr. Huxtable on "The Cosby Show."
Cosby has recently been accused by artist Barbara Bowman, journalist Joan Tarshis and model Janice Dickenson of alleged drugging and sexual assault. Cosby has denied these allegations via a statement from his lawyer.
According to the local WREG media outlet, a local sexual assault advocacy group in Henderson is calling on the private university to cancel its upcoming speaking engagement with Cosby.
David Brown, leader of the local Memphis chapter of SNAP [Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests], said if the school does go through with the Cosby event, he and others will stage a protest at the entrance to the school.
"If he does show up December 5 to the auditorium, I'll be out there protesting, and I won't be alone," Brown said, adding that he believes the college can raise money in a different way.
"I know this is about raising money, but you can raise money more admirably than this," he added.
