2016 presidential hopeful and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently argued that U.S. President Barack Obama has encouraged lawlessness in the country.

Christie made his recent comments on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," when he accused the president of selecting which laws to enforce and which laws to ignore, citing Obama's immigration policies and policies on marijuana legalization.

Whether it is New York, Chicago or San Francisco, it is happening everywhere," Christie, who is a 2016 presidential hopeful, told the morning show.

"The president has encouraged this lawlessness," Christie added. "It is coming from the top."

Obama recently criticized Christie for comments the New Jersey governor made regarding teachers' unions, when Christie said he would like to give teachers' unions a "punch in the face."

While speaking at a Labor Day event in Boston, Obama poked fun at both Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Christie for their positions on teachers' unions.

"One presidential candidate, he is bragging about he destroyed collective bargaining rights in his state. And he says that busting unions prepares him to fight ISIL. I didn't make that up," said Obama said in reference to Walker.

"And then there was the guy — these guys are running for office, they're running for the presidency — who said a union deserves a punch in the face. Really? Tell me how you really feel," the president added.

Christie has long been at odds with the teachers' unions in his state, and last month the head of the state's largest teachers' union called on the governor to resign following his aggressive comments.
