A Chinese baby who was buried alive after her parents thought she had died has been declared healthy at a local hospital.

The infant was reportedly buried in a shallow grave by her mother, Lu Xiayun, when the woman gave birth in a field when she thought she was only four months pregnant. Thinking she had suffered a miscarriage, Lu buried the child in a shallow grave.

When Lu's husband, He Yong, took his wife to the hospital, doctors demanded that they go back home and retrieve the baby so the infant may have a proper examination. The couple returned and removed their baby from its shallow grave to discover that the infant had a heartbeat.

Doctors then told Lu and He that the baby girl, whose name has not been released, was in fact six months old, rather than four months old, and was simply prematurely born.

The child' birth gained international media attention, and donors have contributed money to keep the infant in the hospital so she may receive proper care, as He and Lu did not have enough money to keep the baby at the hospital.

"My mother-in-law has chronic diseases, and I also have a 7-year-old daughter. My wife doesn't have a job. I am the only one who works," Hu recently told the Daily Mail.

The baby is now reportedly being kept on an incubator in the hospital so doctors may monitor its health. He and Lu also have another child, a seven-year-old daughter, and also live with Lu's mother.
