'Chicago Med' season 2 spoilers: Dr. Manning loses a patient; April's unexpected pregnancy leads to more complications

Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) will be facing a lot of difficulties when NBC's "Chicago Med" returns for the back half of season 2 next year.
The second season picks up with Manning losing a patient, resulting to the female doctor being the subject of a routine inquiry at the hospital. Speaking with TV Guide, co-executive producer Andrew Schneider hinted that Manning's review becomes a huge learning experience for her and the rest of the doctors who treated the patient.
"Natalie feels very much on the hot seat," Schneider explained. Meanwhile on the personal side, viewers can expect Manning's relationship with Clarke (Jeff Hephner) to be "severely tested" when new information about their shared past surfaces.
Also struggling this coming year is April (Yaya DaCosta), who must deal with her unexpected pregnancy and tuberculosis. Treating her disease will be more challenging because she is now pregnant with her first child, and co-showrunner Diane Frolov recently teased that it will affect her relationship with Tate as well.
"She will take the treatment [for TB], but... Her cure could be affecting her baby," Frolov said, adding, " It poisons [the relationship]. It's very, very trying for them."
The show is currently on a winter break, but it will return with all-new episodes starting next week. Titled "Uncharted Territory," Thursday's midseason premiere will feature Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) telling Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) to attend to a patient who might be a possible heart recipient, while Clarke confesses to Dr. Manning. After his sabbatical leave, Dr. Stohl (guest star Eddie Jemison) comes back to the hospital and immediately offers a different medical opinion on Dr. Halstead's (Nick Gehlfuss) patient. Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) tends to two MMA fighters who are rushed into Chicago Med in bad shape, and April discovers a huge revelation about her health.
The second season of "Chicago Med" returns on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
