'Chicago Med' season 2 spoilers, casting news: 'Jason Bourne' actor joins cast as new doctor, Dr. Choi gets promoted as new chief resident
After an emotional season 1 finale, "Chicago MD" returns for its second season this Fall with a new doctor on board.

"Jason Bourne" and "Vinyl" actor Ato Essandoh will be the latest addition to the cast and he will portray Dr. Rhodes' (Colin Donnell) new yet-to-be-named mentor. "He's fantastic and such a great guy — he's fit right in with our quirky family," Donnell told Deadline.
During last week's TCA panel, the cast and creators were present to share interesting spoilers on season 2. The premiere will see Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) climb up the career ladder and get a promotion. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Choi's leadership skills gets recognized by the hospital's higher-ups. He's still struggling with PTSD from his previous work but his pet bird will continue to help him deal with it. "The bird is still around," Tee said. "Stealing scenes left and right."
Meanwhile, Dr. Rhodes and Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) will start off on the right foot this season, but their truce might be temporary. "We've put some things behind us. I'm sure the relationship will grow and fall apart and grow and fall apart. ... It wouldn't be fun if we're weren't butting heads a little bit," Donnell hinted.
On other "Chicago" franchise-related news, creator Dick Wolf shared his plans of doing a four-way crossover for all the "Chicago" programs. "Chicago PD," "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago MD" are all set to return this Fall while the newest addition "Chicago Justice" will debut midseason. Wolf stressed that it will not be too difficult to come up with a story intertwining the shows.
"An arson case [on Fire] could show up in Justice. Obviously, a P.D. case that's resolved could show up in Justice," he explained (via TV Guide). "And doctors, aside from a massive medical murderer or something ... you would have, for example, Oliver [Platt] become one of the go-to expert witnesses on psychiatry, much like Elizabeth Olivet was on Law & Order. ... I think the integration will be as seamless as they have been for the past three or four years now."
Tune in to "Chicago MD" season 2 which premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
