'Chicago Fire' season 5 air date, spoilers: EP hints literature-inspired story arc; Crossover romance with 'Chicago P.D.' confirmed

"Chicago Fire" still has a few months to go before its much-awaited premiere, and an interesting literature-related storyline is up ahead when the show returns later this year.
Season 5 will feature two characters as they team up to become authors of a firefighter-based romance fiction. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly's Spoiler Room, executive producer Matt Olmstead shared a bit about the upcoming arc and who will be involved in it as well. "Brett and Mouch join up to write this firefighter romance lit, which is its own real genre that Mouch gets wind of," he teased. "Platt finds out maybe not the way that she would have preferred."
There are speculations that Mouch will get inspiration from his personal romantic experiences. Brett might also be inspired by her newfound romantic interest Antonio Dawson of "Chicago P.D." Olmstead pointed out that Brett and Dawson's May-December affair is an interesting arc because it could reveal a lot more from their personalities. Although there is no reason for them to be together, Brett will realize that Dawson is the man she is looking for. Dawson, on the other hand, will fall in love with Brett's compassionate soul which makes her the perfect mother for his children.
Meanwhile, fans are still hoping to see the highly anticipated Casey and Gabby Dawson wedding in the fifth season. Details on the possible union are still under wraps, but Olmstead already mentioned in an interview that they are not completely against the idea of the couple finally tying the knot. However, the creators would rather give Casey and Dawson's relationship a little more time to work things out after everything they went through. The EP further added that they are planning on dedicating a full episode for the couple in the upcoming installment.
Catch the premiere of "Chicago Fire" season 5 on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
