Californian televangelist to build $125 million Christian-themed resort
A televangelist based in California is planning to build a unique kind of resort.
According to a report by the Orange County Register, Morris Cerullo wants to build a Christian-themed resort in San Diego worth $125 million USD.
Cerullo reportedly plans for the resort to have a Biblical museum featuring Jewish and Christian artefacts and a 20-foot replica of the wailing wall of Jerusalem.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the 84-year-old wanted to build the theme park on the foreclosed Mission Valley hotel, which he bought four years ago.
The Christian-themed resort would also include 127 suites, the headquarters for Cerullo's new ministry, catacombs that have holograms, and a high-tech theater that offers 'immersive through-the-Bible movie experience'.
The resort would not be complete without a spa and other amenities for visitors to enjoy.
The resort is expected to welcome approximately 400,000 visitors each year. Currently, the plan for the Christian-themed resort is pending approval from the city council, but development is expected to begin this year.
Should the plan push through, the theme park would not be the first of its kind in the United States.
The Holy Land Experience is another Christian-themed park in Orlando, Florida, that recreates what happened in Jerusalem almost 2,000 years ago. The crucifixion takes place six times a week, reenacted by actors to portray a glimpse of Jesus' suffering.
The Holy Land Experience began its operations in 2001 and is currently owned by Trinity Broadcasting Network, who bought the theme park's $8 million mortgage.
