'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' season 4 episode 7 spoilers: Jake tries to impress Amy's ex-cop dad at Thanksgiving dinner

Amy's (Melissa Fumero) dad comes to Thanksgiving dinner in the upcoming episode of Fox's cop comedy series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 4.

Titled "Mr. Santiago," next week's episode will see a family reunion in the Santiago household. According to the official synopsis for episode 7, Jake (Andy Samberg) goes "full Santiago" to impress Amy's former cop dad, Mr. Santiago (guest star Jimmy Smits). At Am's intricately planned Thanksgiving dinner, Jake and Amy's focus is elsewhere. Charles (Joe Lo Truglio) ends up on turkey duty, while Holt (Andre Braugher) helps Pimento (guest star Jason Mantzoukas) deal with his emotions after realizing that he can no longer work for the New York Police Department (NYPD).

In the promo images from Yahoo TV, Jake tries to look cool as he stands beside Amy's father. A photo shows Jake holding a paper with a "Mr. Santiago" printed on it as he fetched Amy's dad, while one image shows the two men having a light moment outside Amy's home.

Speaking with the publication, co-creator Dan Goor shared the story of how they ended up casting Smits for a guest role. He revealed that it was actually two of the show's series regulars who pitched the idea to him.

"Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa) and Melissa Fumero (Amy) ran into Jimmy Smits at an event and said he was incredibly funny, nice, and awesome. They pitched that he should be Amy's father," he explained. "As someone who has always been a fan of his, I was very very very into the idea. We immediately broke a story and then asked him to be in it. Serendipitously, it turned out he was a fan of the show and he agreed to join us. That's a long-winded way of saying that Stephanie and Melissa had an amazing idea and deserve loads of credit."

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 4 airs every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
