'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' and 'New Girl' crossover news: First trailer revealed; Jake finally meets Jess

Jake from "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" will finally meet Jess from "New Girl" in the upcoming crossover episode for the two hit comedies airing next Tuesday on Fox. To give viewers a chance to see the wacky chemistry between the two characters, Fox recently released a new promo for the special episode.

The special hour-long event will span two episodes, starting with "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" at 8 p.m.ET. Titled "Night Shift," the episode will see Det. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) as he commandeers a car driven by New York tourist Jess (Zooey Deschanel). While working a new case, Jake enlists Jess to help him track down a suspect. Meanwhile, Holt (Andre Braugher) learns more ways to increase office morale after noticing that it has been at a record low since the squad was assigned to take the night shift.

A half hour later in the "Homecoming" episode of "New Girl", the mystery behind Jess' arrival in the Big Apple is explained. After Schmidt (Max Greenfield) learns that he is being honored at his high school, the gang will travel east to support him. Once there, Jess meets Jake, who takes her to Brooklyn's 99th Precinct. She will also meet Gina Linetti (guest star Chelsea Peretti) and Capt. Holt in the headquarters. In an attempt to impress Det. Charles Boyle (guest star Joe Lo Truglio), Nick (Jake Johnson) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) scramble to provide subway fare. Cece (Hannah Simone) will also have to face off with her new mother-in-law (guest star Nora Dunn).

"Jess is tasked with going into Brooklyn to fetch Schmidt's favorite soup at a deli called Schmangleman's and when she's there, her car is commandeered by one Jake Peralta [Andy Samberg]," said "New Girl" executive producer Brett Baer in an interview with TV Insider. "And that's the kick off to the adventure...we have a couple of fun guest spots from Brooklyn in our episode [that are] sort of directed towards precinct."
