'Boruto: The Next Generation' latest news: Series creator describes tone of 'Naruto' spin-off anime series

After enjoying more than a decade of worldwide success, the popular Japanese series "Naruto" will soon come to an end as the anime series "Naruto: Shippuden" heads into its final episodes that will officially conclude it.
Although fans may be sad with the series' conclusion, they won't have to stay in mourning for too long with the announcement that Naruto will be brought back to life through a spin-off anime featuring a powerful cast of ninjas, old and new.
As reported by Comicbook, series creator Masashi Kishimoto spoke about what fans can expect from the anime series adaptation of his spin-off "Naruto" manga series, "Boruto: The Next Generation."
In a recently translated interview from Weekly Shonen Jump, Kishimoto was asked how "Boruto" will differ from the tone of the original anime series. In response, the manga artist revealed that he wanted the upcoming anime series to be lighter in contrast to the original anime's darker themes.
"As it went along, the Naruto story kept getting more introspective and darker and darker. So for Boruto, I want it to be a little bit more happy and fun. Something that the younger boys and girls can also enjoy," Kishimoto said.
For those who have read the manga version of "Boruto: The Next Generation," it is no big secret that the beginning of the manga's first volume promised a much darker storyline in the future. However, according to Kishimoto, the tonal shift was intentional.
"I wanted the start of the manga to be happy, but I also wanted to show that there's a dark turning point coming in order to grab the reader's attention," he explained.
When asked what he was most excited about regarding "Boruto: The Next Generation," Kishimoto teased the eventual introductions of more characters in the manga series and its upcoming anime version.
"There's a lot of characters that haven't shown up in Boruto yet," the series creator said, "so I'm excited about the drama involving them."
The anime version of "Boruto: The Next Generation" is set to premiere sometime in April.
