'Bones' season 12 spoilers, news: there might still be hope for more Brennan and Booth after this year

"Bones" may be wrapping up its long run after this coming season but folks behind the series are not treating it as a goodbye, but instead just a chapter in the overall story with the possibility of revisiting the lore again sometime in the future.
Admittedly, EP Michael Peterson said that even if they have embarked on their supposed farewell season, it has not sunk on him yet that season 12 will be the last of Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth's (David Boreanaz) story.
"I absolutely am not considering this the end," he told TVLine. "I am in full-on denial. I've been working on the show for eight-and-a-half years. It is my family. I adore it here. I don't want to leave. And the idea of having some kind of reunion in a year or two ... I would not rule it out."
In hindsight, what Peterson is proposing is not entirely incredulous, as 2016 had proven that old franchises can indeed come back as long as there is enough clamor for it. Cases in point are the countless rehashes, reboots and revivals that viewers saw this year be it on the big or small screen.
Needless to say, that does not mean that the tipped final season will not be a series finale material. In fact, season 12 is by no means lazy with the crime and medical procedural show looking to tie loose ends for the couple. For example, Sully (Eddie McClintock) coming back into the thick of things during an interesting time for the couple is a setup for a possible closure or something else regarding his past relationship with Brennan. Another returning character is Zack (Eric Millegan) who has made a big impact as soon as "Bones" debuted its last installment with a plot twist. And from the looks of it, the former Jeffersonian intern is going to stick at least for another episode to push the overall narrative for the rest of the outing.
"The thing is that Zack's storyline is not just his storyline. It's going to affect Hodgins, Booth, Angela. His storyline is present throughout the season, especially as they are fighting for his future. Eric himself will be present in two episodes — the premiere and Episode 11," EP Jonathan Collier told TV Guide in a separate episodic post-mortem session.
"Bones" season 12 airs every Tuesday, 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
