'Bones' season 12 spoilers news: Eric Millegan weighs in on shocking Zack Addy twist, EP hints 'very satisfying' final season

"Bones" recently wrapped up its eleventh season with the surprising return of fan-favorite character Zack Addy (Eric Millegan), but he may no longer be the good guy everyone loved. Fox's long-running procedural series will air its 12th and final season next year, and viewers will see if Zack is indeed the serial killer known as the Puppeteer.

To recap, the last episode of season 11 saw Zack after eight years of being in a psychiatric hospital. It seemed that he tricked the Jeffersonian team to get out of the lab by nabbing Dr. Brennan (Emily Deschanel), but his motives are still unknown. His actions led to speculation that he is the notorious murderer but unfortunately, fans will have to wait until 2017 to know the answers.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Millegan shared how his co-stars went out of their way just to keep his character from being the bad guy. Even though it was not in their power to decide on how the story will play out, but they still made an effort to fight for the beloved character. "I went to lunch with Tamara Taylor [who plays Cam] a couple of weeks ago," he explained, "and when she and T.J. [Thyne, who plays Hodgins] found out that I was coming back and that there was a possibility that I was this killer they've been tracking, they specifically talked to Michael Peterson, one of the showrunners, and said, 'You can't make him the killer! We've already been down that road. You have to make him the hero.' So that was their input. They fought for my character."

Executive producer Jonathan Collier also commented on the shocking twist and though he could not spill specific details, he mentioned that viewers will see more of Zack next season. "I can't confirm anything," he told TV Line. "It's really gratifying to be where we take everything. Everything is very, very satisfying. Everything makes sense. Everything is earned, and everything is surprising. And there will be more of Zack in Season 12."

Will Taylor and Thyne's effort be a good sign for Zack Addy?

"Bones" season 12 premieres next year on Fox, but the network has yet to announce an exact air date.
