'Bones' season 12 news: Serial killer from season 11 returns, character set to come back

The eleventh season of long-running crime procedural drama "Bones" may still be a month away from its finale, but it's never too early to talk about what the future may hold for the hit TV series. Fox already renewed the show for its landmark 12th season, but unfortunately for fans, it will also mark the end for the Jeffersonian team.

Like most shows, the farewell season will not be complete without some sort of reunion among the cast of characters. As noted by TV Line, a familiar face is set to return just in time before "Bones" comes to an end: Zack Addy. Executive producer Michael Peterson admits that bringing back the fan favorite character portrayed by Eric Millegan is a part of his plan for season 12. "It seems like the right thing to do," Peterson explained. "I will say this: I know what the fans want, and as much of a roller coaster ride as we may put them through, we want to deliver. I watched the show before I was ever writing on the show, and I think what Eric brought to that character was fantastic. I'll make a promise to try really hard to make it happen."

As for the storyline, the team will still do what they do best and they will track a serial murderer who was first introduced in season 11. The said killer, who is described to have a "fascination with mother figures," will also bring more trouble in the show's final season. "We'll probably look at them one more time in this season and one more time next season," he mentioned. "If we're having fun we might go a little longer, but you can expect one more this season and one more [in Season 12]."

The 12th and final season of "Bones" premieres in the midseason next year on Fox.
