'Bones' season 12 casting update, news: Premiere date revealed, Betty White & Jaime Boreanaz to guest star

The final season of Fox's "Bones" is already taking shape, as the official premiere date and guest stars have been recently announced.
According to spoiler reports, the show's upcoming 12-episode run will bring the storylines of Booth (David Boreanaz), Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and the Jeffersonian-FBI team to a close by celebrating the journey of all the characters. In the program's final chapter, avid viewers will see the return of fan-favorite guest stars and one of the team's old flames. The story will also feature a gripping serial killer arc, lumberjack competition, wedding, and see Brennan and Booth deal with yet another challenge in their married life. Similar to the past seasons, the program will introduce new guest stars and another round of gruesome murders for season 12.
Joining the cast as a guest star this season is Boreanaz's wife, Jaime Bergman. In an Instagram post, the actress shared the announcement to fans and thanked her husband for convincing her to be a part of "Bones" one last time. "I'm baaack! Can't wait for you to see my character, you guys! thank you @dbdbo69 for talking me into doing this #bone," she captioned a photo of her script for an episode titled "The Steel in the Wheels."
Meanwhile, veteran actress Betty White will also return for the farewell season to reprise her role as Dr. Beth Mayer. Known as a world-renowned forensic anthropologist, Dr. Beth will be back to help Brennan and the team with their investigation.
"We've loved working on BONES and are so excited to bring our fans this final season," executive producers and showrunners Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson said in a press statement. "After 12 years on the air, it's an honor to be able to write the exciting and meaningful ending, which the show deserves."
The 12th and final season of "Bones" premieres on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
