'Bones' season 12 air date, news, spoilers: Filming officially wraps up; team rescues Brennan in season premiere

Filming for the farewell season of "Bones" has officially wrapped up, but it seems that Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) won't be saying goodbye to their jobs in the story.

In a recent Twitter post, lead actor Boreanaz shared a photo of a clapperboard during his last day as Special Agent Seeley Booth. "Last shot and series wrap," the caption reads. Actress Tamara Taylor, who was in the series since its second season, also took to social media to share the news with fans. "So, that's a series wrap on Dr Camille Saroyan. Thank you @BONESonFOX for a wild and wonderful 11 years!!!" the actress wrote.

Although further details about the final episode of "Bones" are still being kept under wraps, co-showrunner Michael Peterson confirmed that it won't be something viewers expect. Booth and Brennan won't be walking away from their respective careers to begin a new, less dangerous life together.

Speaking to TV Line, Peterson said they already did that in a previous season, so repeating it for season 12 might feel a bit of a let down for the show's avid fans. "We did that in the Season 10 finale," the co-showrunner explained. "And since we don't like repeating ourselves, it [forced] us to brainstorm a different [conclusion]," he went on to say.

Titled "The End in the End," the Fox procedural drama's swan song will feature interesting twists including a wedding and shocking deaths. As for the much awaited season 12 premiere titled "The Final Chapter: The Hope in the Horror," the synopsis notes that it will pick up where the last season's huge cliffhanger left off: Brennan (Emily Deschanel) being kidnapped by her former assistant, Zack Addy (guest star Eric Millegan). Booth and the rest of the team must race the clock to search for her, but they eventually realize that Brennan's rescue is just the beginning of their problem.

The 12th and final season of "Bones" premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
