'Bones' season 11 finale spoilers, plot news: Creepy serial killer from the past returns; Will he go after Brennan this time?
The Jeffersonian team will investigate a case involving a creepy serial killer from the past in the upcoming episode of Fox's long-running procedural drama "Bones" season 11.

In the season finale titled "The Nightmare Within the Nightmare," a serial killer who has been previously introduced in the series will make a shocking comeback. Known as "The Puppeteer," the perpetrator lives with his victims' dead bodies before getting rid of them. Meanwhile, Dr. Brennan deals with her guilt over not being around last year, blaming herself for not catching the suspect earlier. Little does she know that she will get into trouble while probing the case.
The Puppeteer is surely keeping a close eye on the team after Brennan investigated one of his victims earlier in the season. Now he will step up his game, and by the episode's end, his identity will finally be revealed according to TV Guide.
In an interview, executive producer Michael Peterson mentioned that the murderer has a fascination with mother figures which might spell bad news for Brennan. "It's going to have a profound effect," he said about the killer's return. "It is different than other [cases]. It really is going to psychologically mess with a lot of the characters. The next episode where he is featured is called 'The Nightmare Within the Nightmare.' This is a person that can really haunt your subconscious."
Peterson added that they plan on including The Puppeteer in the show's 12th and final season. Nothing is set in stone yet but his stay might be extended for a longer time. "We'll probably look at them one more time in this season and one more time next season," the EP stated. "If we're having fun we might go a little longer, but you can expect one more this season and one more [in Season 12]."
Can the team catch The Puppeteer before he kills again? Tune in to the season 11 finale episode which airs on Thursday, July 21 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
