Boko Haram Kidnaps 100 Women, Children From Nigerian Village, Witnesses Claim
Witnesses in the northeastern region of Nigeria are claiming that the Boko Haram terrorist group recently stormed a village and kidnapped over 100 locals, mainly women and children.
The raid reportedly happened last Sunday in the remote northeastern village of Gumsuri, where militants reportedly used weapons to storm the village and kidnap over 100 women and children, while killing 35 more.
Although the attack happened Sunday, it reportedly took surviving villages until Thursday to travel to a nearby town to report the attack and kidnapping to the media.
The Boko Haram terrorist group has not taken responsibility for Sunday's attack, but local officials are arguing that the kidnapping holds the same similarities as other attacks, including the one that took place earlier this year when Boko Haram kidnapped over 200 schoolgirls from the Borno state.
Maina Chibok, who heard of the attack from family members living in Gumsuri, told Reuters of the militants' siege of the village on Sunday.
"They gathered the people, shot dead over 30 people and took away more than 100 women and children in two open-top trucks," Chibok told the media outlet.
Aji Ibrahim, a teenager living in the village who hid in the bushes during the attack, told the Associated Press that believes the Islamic Boko Haram group was definitely behind Sunday's attack.
"No doubt they were Boko Haram members because they were chanting Allahu akbar (God is great) while shooting at people and torching houses," he told The Associated Press in a recent interview.
