'Blue Bloods' season 7 updates and spoilers: Premiere date set for Sept. 23, Frank to give love another shot?

CBS' long-running police procedural drama "Blue Bloods" is all set for a Fall return, with season 7 sure to bring more interesting storylines for the members of the Reagan clan.
For the uninitiated, the show centers on a family of police officers working for the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Previous seasons did not really give much emphasis on the characters' personal lives aside from their career. The relationship between Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) and Jaime Reagan (Will Estes) may be highlighted in the plot, but as the series moves forward to its seventh season, fans may be wondering if there is another romance which they can look forward to.
As noted by Carter Matt, there is a possibility that the Reagan family's patriarch, Frank (Tom Selleck) might finally give love another shot this season. The police commissioner lost his wife Mary way back due to cancer, and from then on he decided to focus more on his work and family. He will eventually retire soon after years in the service, and introducing a love interest for him would be an interesting twist in the story.
The show is already in its seventh year and viewers can't help but wonder how long can it stick around. "Blue Bloods" wouldn't have lasted this long if it was not performing well in terms of ratings, but there might be certain long-term issues that must be addressed. As a show gets longer, the expenses for producing it also rises. Another report from Carter Matt notes that the procedural drama currently films in an expensive set in New York, with salaries continuously increasing. The show mostly draws inspiration from real-life headlines and politics so story-wise, it will not run out of gas anytime soon.
Will Frank finally have a love interest? Find out in "Blue Bloods" season 7 which premieres September 23, Friday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
