The upcoming installment of "Bloodline" will be bittersweet for fans after Netflix confirmed that the series will end after season 3.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming giant had notified Sony that the third season will be the show's last outing on the platform. The series was also given a reduced episode order by Netflix, cutting it from 13 episodes to 10. Licensing fees on the program was also slashed by the streamer. Although the two companies deny that there are tensions between them, it's still unclear if Sony will try to air future seasons of "Bloodline" in another platform.

"'Bloodline' season three will be the show's final season," Cindy Holland, Netflix's VP Original content, said in a press statement. "... We are looking forward to the exciting climax KZK have in store for the series conclusion in May 2017."

Executive producer Todd A. Kessler previously said that the creators always planned more seasons for the series. "It's about the family and the relationships of those family members," he explained. "[Mendelsohn's] Danny was always going to die, like in 'Crime and Punishment' and other stories where it happens early. 'Bloodline' is about watching these relationships evolve."

Meanwhile, Ben Mendelsohn recently won his first Emmy for the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category. Since "Bloodline" debuted, Mendelsohn earned an Emmy nomination in 2015 and a Golden Globe nomination in 2016. Unfortunately, the actor did not attend the awards ceremony. "I'll have it at home for when you get back, Ben. Thanks," "Empire" star Taraji P. Henson quipped after announcing the winner. Also nominated for the Outstanding Actor in a Drama series were Jon Voight ("Ray Donovan"), Jonathan Banks ("Better Call Saul"), Michael Kelly ("House of Cards") and "Game of Thrones" stars Kit Harrington and Peter Dinklage.

The third season of "Bloodline" is set to premiere sometime in 2017. Sony has yet to announce if another network will pick up the drama for another season.
