'Blindspot' season 2 midseason finale, spoilers, news and updates: Executive producer shares details of cliffhanger ending

NBC's crime-thriller series, "Blindspot," ended the first half of its season 2 with revelations and explosions. Most of all, Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and Borden (Ukweli Roach) got into a fight after Patterson discovered Borden's plan to escape. A gun was shot, but it is not clear who received the bullet.
Executive producer Martin Gero explained that the start of the second part of season 2 will pick up right after that moment. "As it is now, I'm just working on the cut, but right now, it starts the second after the finale," he said.
As to who was shot, Gero will not confirm. He does not also want to reveal if one of the characters die, but according to him, "It is safe to say that one of them is shot."
The conflict happens right after the revelation that Borden joined Jane (Jaimie Alexander), and subsequently Sandstorm, in a revenge mission after his wife was slain in a bombing incident that was supposedly intended for Jane.
In the present time, Jane helped the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) locate Sandstorm's compound, only to be apprehended by Shepherd (Michelle Hurd) because of their own mole, who was none other than Borden himself.
Gero explained that they already intended for Borden to be the mole from the very beginning, and if fans look back, they will realize that he had been helping Jane's Sandstorm mission effectively.
"If you look back to the pilot, he's the other new person in the show. He meets Weller and Mayfair for the first time in the opening scene of the pilot," the producer says. "Then he convinces Jane to not quit the FBI, he pushes Jane towards Weller, he's telling Weller to open up as much about Taylor Shaw so that Jane can get intel."
The second half of "Blindspot" season 2 returns on Jan. 4, 2017, 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
