'Black Mirror' season 3 release date, plot spoilers: Episode synopses revealed; EP hints 'more idiosyncratic' storylines

Netflix's anthology drama "Black Mirror" returns to the small screen next month, and the episode synopses for the thriller drama's upcoming third season has been released.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Charlie Brooker shared hints on what's in store for fans in the upcoming installment. "There's probably a slightly wider scope, and it's probably more idiosyncratic than before," he said. "You can't pick which [episode] best represents the season—they're all outliers."
The thriller drama will span six episodes, each telling a different story which centers on the effects of technology to humans. The episode synopses are the following:
'Nosedive'
Starring Bryce Dallas Howard and directed by Golden Globe-winner Joe Wright ("Atonement"), the story focuses on an insecure office worker who lives in a world where everyone is obsessed with social media interaction. Brooke hints that the social satire episode has a "creepy serenity" and the whole plot is something fans would not expect.
'Men Against Fire'
Directed by Jakob Verbruggen ("House of Cards"), this military horror episode is set in a post-war future. A rookie soldier (Malachi Kirby) protects frightened villagers from "an infestation of vicious feral mutants" while waiting for some sort of technological breakthrough that can help them.
'San Junipero'
Directed by Owen Harris (BBC's "The Gamechangers"), this 1980s set coming-of-age drama follows two ladies (Mackenzie Davis and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) as they visit a California beach town known for its "sun, surf, and sex."
'Shut Up and Dance'
Set in the modern day, this episode is described as a "kitchen sink nightmarish thriller." Directed by James Watkins ("The Woman In Black"), the story focuses on a socially withdrawn 19-year-old (Alex Lawther) who finds himself in an online trap and is "quickly forced into an uneasy alliance with a shifty man (Jerome Flynn) who are both at the mercy of persons unknown."
'Playtest'
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg ("10 Cloverfield Lane"), the plot follows Kurt Russell's son Wyatt Russell as a thrill-seeker who hooks up with a woman (Hannah John-Kamen) and tests a new technological advancement in video games which is described as a "device as mind-bendingly sophisticated as it is terrifying."
'Hated in the Nation'
Directed by James Hawes ("Doctor Who"), this episode is a crime drama starring Kelly MacDonald as a police detective. With the help of her nerdy young sidekick, she will investigate on a "string of grisly murders with a sinister link to social media." This is also the show's firs 90-minute episode.
