Fox News host Bill O'Reilly has responded to Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert and his mocking of O'Reilly's plan to send a mercenary team to combat the Islamic State.

On a recent airing of his show "O'Reilly Factor," Bill O'Reilly suggested that the U.S. send mercenaries, or professional soldiers, to combat the Islamic State terror group in the Middle East. O'Reilly suggested that the soldiers would be U.S. trained and be able to speak English, adding viewers "wouldn't believe how many mercenaries told me this was a good idea."

Colbert, who plays the role of a mock conservative on "The Colbert Report," poked fun at O'Reilly's suggestion during his "Tip of the Hat" segment last week, saying: "You know these mercenaries will be good guys because only the best people kill whoever you want for cash. It's quality folks, is what I'm saying — unlike those suckers who do it for love of country."

O'Reilly responded to Colbert's mocking on his Monday evening airing of his Fox cable program, saying "Well, the left wing's having none of that. People like Stephen Colbert, mocking the plan. But here's the tip: Mr. Colbert and others of his ilk have no bleeping clue how to fight the jihad."

"They don't know anything. And when someone gets beheaded their reaction is 'Oh, that's bad.' But by being completely vacant, it doesn't stop these people from mocking ideas that might have some value, might solve some complex problems. Because in the world of the ideologue, where Colbert lives, solutions don't really matter. It's how you feel about things."
