'Better Call Saul' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Bob Odenkirk hints explosive new season; Jimmy, Chuck's conflict to escalate
"Better Call Saul" may still have a year to go until season 3 premieres but the wait will certainly be worth it. Rumor has it that the new storyline will be exciting since it will feature the beginning of Jimmy McGill's (Bob Odenkirk) journey to becoming the notorious criminal lawyer Saul Goodman.
Speaking with The Wrap, Odenkirk teased that season 3 may finally see Jimmy's transition to becoming Saul. "This season is gonna be about how innocence gets torn away," he said. "We learn that Saul is just who he's pretending to be to get back at the world... Season 3 is when things will really explode."

Comparing the two personalities he portrays—Odenkirk explained how Jimmy is "vastly more innocent" than his flamboyant counterpart. "He looks at the world in a wide-eyed way [an effect enhanced by CGI around the actor's eyes in flashbacks to Jimmy at age 30]," the actor/writer mentioned, referring to Jimmy's personality. This makes it more difficult for Jimmy to distinguish his "angels and devils." He usually thinks he's doing the right thing when in fact, he is doing the opposite.
To make his portrayal more realistic, Odenkirk shared that he reads his script as late as possible. "I'd like to get my scenes that day and only know what the character knows," he continued.
On another note, season 3 is also expected to delve deeper into the escalating conflict between Jimmy and his elder brother Chuck (Michael McKean). As fans can recall, the previous installment saw Jimmy being betrayed by Chuck involving the Mesa Verde documents. There are speculations that this will be one of the reasons for Jimmy's transformation.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Peter Gould revealed that they used code names to keep the previous appearances of "Breaking Bad's" Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis) and the Cousins (Daniel and Luis Moncada) under wraps. The extreme measures they took involved using pseudonyms whenever the actors booked travels for filming and creating cover stories to explain why they were in New Mexico. They will probably do the same for other "Breaking Bad" stars making cameos in future episodes.
To date, not much is known about the storyline for "Better Call Saul" season 3 but the hit AMC spinoff drama is expected to return sometime next year on AMC.
