Retired neurosurgeon and conservative darling Ben Carson has spoken out regarding the Islamic State, saying in a recent interview that he doesn't believe U.S. soldiers should follow any "rules" when confronting the terrorist group.

Carson, who is likely to seek a presidential bid in 2016, told Fox News' Bill Hemmer this week that he doesn't believe the U.S. will win its battle against the Islamic State if it follows the traditional Western laws of war.

"Our military needs to know that they're not going be prosecuted when they come back, because somebody has said, 'You did something that was politically incorrect,'" said Carson.

"There is no such thing as a politically correct war. We need to grow up, we need to mature. If you're gonna have rules for war, you should just have a rule that says no war. Other than that, we have to win."

Carson added in a separate interview on Monday that he believes President Barack Obama could be found guilty of treason if the Commander-in-Chief fights Congress on a bill regarding Homeland Security funding.

"I would say break the funding for Homeland Security up into parcels. Don't present it as a whole bill. That makes it much more difficult for [Obama] to stand in the way. And, if he does stand in the way, particularly things that are vital to the security of this country, then we can start talking about treason. If things are done to the contrary to the security of this country, whoever does them is guilty of treason," Carson said.
