Ben Carson Says Life Dedicated to 'Saving Children,' Not 'Going to Cocktail Parties'
While some have criticized 2016 presidential hopeful Ben Carson for his lack of political experience, the retired neurosurgeon recently took to social media that he has served a different and important role in life as a neurosurgeon.
Carson, who previously served as the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, made his comments in a recent Facebook post, writing: "I didn't go to embassy cocktail parties or beg lobbyists for money. I spent night after night in a quiet, sterile room trying to save the life of a small child. That was my life's service. This is my life's experience."
"What I have is a lifetime of caring, integrity and honesty. I have experienced the American Dream. No where in the world, other than America, could a man whose ancestors were slaves, rise to become a leading brain surgeon and one day seek the Office of President," Carson added.
Fellow 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump has previously criticized Carson for his lack of experience in the political arena.
Trump said earlier this year that he would prove to be a much more capable president at creating jobs for Americans compared to Carson. Trump is known as a real estate mogul and television personality.
"[Carson is] really a friend of mine, I just think it's a very difficult situation that he puts himself into, to have a doctor who wasn't creating jobs and would have a nurse or maybe two nurses. It's such a different world. I've created tens of thousands of jobs over the years," Trump said in an September interview with the Daily Caller.
