Ben Carson Describes Story of Finding Jesus to Iowa Church

Retired neurosurgeon and 2016 presidential hopeful Ben Carson recently shared with an Iowa church his experience of finding God as a teenager while living in Detroit, Michigan.
Carson, who went from a poor Detroit upbringing to becoming a world-renowned neurosurgeon, told his story about finding Christianity during a recent speech at LifePoint Assembly of God in Osceola, Iowa over the weekend.
The 2016 GOP presidential hopeful told the congregation that he first read the Bible when he was locked in a bathroom as a teenager for three hours.
"When I came out, my temper was gone and I've never had a problem since," Carson told the congregation, as reported by the Des Moines Register.
Carson went on to tell the congregation that one of his main inspirations for how to live his life is the story of Joseph in the Old Testament, saying that he focused on the importance of not playing the victim, despite the disadvantages he encountered growing up.
The retired neurosurgeon told the congregation that stories like the biblical one of Joseph "really spoke volumes to my heart. Where you end up has a lot to do with the attitude you adopt in your life."
Carson has not been afraid to express his religious beliefs before. When asked at the recent Fox News-hosted GOP debate if the Bible held authority over the U.S. Constitution, the presidential hopeful replied: "That is not a simple question. I think probably what you have to do is ask a specific passage of the Bible and a specific portion of the Constitution."
