'Beetlejuice 2' news, updates: Is sequel really happening? Tim Burton willing to do movie with Michael Keaton

There is no official confirmation that the 1988 fantasy comedy hit "Beetlejuice" is going to have a sequel, so far. However, there are people from the original cast and production team that expressed their willingness to do the sequel, if ever their tight schedules would loosen up and allow them.
"Beetlejuice" director Tim Burton revealed that he would want to be a part of "Beetlejuice 2," but he gave some sort of condition before confirming himself as taking the director's seat once again. In Burton's recent interview with IGN for the promotion of his recent movie "Big Eyes," he said he would surely be in the "Beetlejuice" sequel as long as Michael Keaton, who portrayed the movie's protagonist, would be willing as well to be a part of it.
"There's only one Beetlejuice, and that's Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever... I miss that character. There's something that's cathartic and amazing about it. I think it's closer than ever," Burton said.
Burton may have the go signal to do "Beetlejuice 2," as Keaton have also expressed his interest to take on the role of Beetlejuice for the second time, according to a report from Crossmap.
"I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again," Keaton stated.
Seth Grahame-Smith, who is expected to write the screenplay of "Beetlejuice" sequel, told iDigitalTimes in an interview that he is totally on board with the much anticipated project.
"I think we landed on the right idea, landed on the right approach. It's just now making sure that for me, I don't want to sh*t my pants in front of the entire world making a sequel to one of my favorite movies," he said.
As everyone reported to be involved in the movie seems to give a thumbs up, "Beetlejuice" fans can't help but wonder how the cast will be able to do the sequel, with both Keaton and Burton being involved in several projects. Keaton had been involved in 2014's "Birdman" and last year's Oscar-winning "Spotlight. Burton is currently focusing on "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children." However, Grahame-Smith gave assurance in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly that the focus will be set on "Beetlejuice" given the right timing.
"I've emailed with Michael Keaton. I know he's excited about the idea. I know Tim is excited about the idea. Where it stands now is Tim's got to get ready to make 'Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children,' and then hopefully we are set, deals are done, and we're waiting in the wings ready to go right after 'Peregrine's' wraps up. The ideal timeline is we're really getting into it toward the end of this year."
