The next installment of the first-person shooter video game, "Battlefield," has already been announced by game developer EA DICE. According to reports, the World War I setup of Battlefield 1 almost did not materialize.

Patrick Soderlund, the VP of EA Studios said at the recently concluded EA's Investor Day that he initially rejected the proposal that was pitched by DICE. He admitted that he did not like the idea of a World War 1 setting in a Battlefield game. He thought that the First World War, which most battles happened on trench warfare, is not that exciting. However, the game developer kept on pushing for it until they eventually convinced the EA Studios VP to give them the go signal to start the development of the game.

"[World War 1] wasn't the most obvious choice...If you look at what other partners in the industry are doing, they're going into sci-fi; we've had a lot of success in the modern military space. But we felt like there was a need for a change," Soderlund said in a report by GameSpot.

Soderlund said that the company is doing their best to deliver the next installment the way they want it to be. The expectations from all the fans are pretty high and they do not plan to release "Battlefield 1" until they believe that the game is ready.

"We have to remember that so far, we have only shown one trailer," Soderlund added. "Yes, it's gotten a lot of success, but what's important is that we have to go back and make sure we deliver on the full promise of what Battlefield can be. And that we will do."

As of the moment, only the announcement trailer has been released by the company so far. Fans are waiting for more significant details like gameplay features and release date information. EA is expected to release more "Battlefield 1" details anytime soon.
