'Avatar 2' spoilers: scripts for the upcoming James Cameron project 'many times more amazing than the first,' Sigournery Weaver teases

No official release date for "Avatar 2" have been announced so far making fans a bit jittery in spite of reports about the James Cameron project surfacing every now and then. But actress Sigourney Weaver, who is set to reprise her role in the film, offers some teasers that could at least reassure audiences that while the production just could not nab a premiere date, the project is certainly pushing forward.

The veteran actress recently sat down with Variety to talk about her jam-packed schedule in the coming year and has provided some much-needed updates on "Avatar 2" and its succeeding three more films. So far — at least according to her — the movies will be worth the wait as she says that from what she has read so far, everything is better than what the first "Avatar" offered.

"In my opinion, the three scripts I've read so far are many times more amazing than the first one in terms of their scope. He did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first movie, establishing the family and the relationships and the world, and now he really gets to play," Weaver gushed.

What is quite unclear as of now is how Weaver will be returning to the lore when her 2009 epic science fiction flick "Avatar" character, Dr. Grace Augustine, died. This poses a lot of questions as to whether she will be donning a new character or appearing in flashbacks or maybe even reprising her role via a plot ploy. Whatever it is, it appears that the 67-year-old is locked in for the rest of the planned franchise as she spills that moving forward to "Avatar 2," she will still be back for more.

"I was looking ahead at the four Avatar sequels looming over me, and the idea of doing a small, intimate picture that was all about relationships was very appealing," she explained.

As previously mentioned, "Avatar 2" has yet to plant a release date flag, but a recent schedule kerfuffle over at 20th Century Fox opens a slot for Cameron's LightStorm Entertainment for December 21, 2018. The company is tipped to distribute the remaining "Avatar" films, and putting two and two together, many were quick to assume that the booked date will be for the sequel.
