'Avatar' 2 News: Sequels Will Amaze Audiences, James Cameron Predicts

James Cameron has predicted that viewers will be blown away when the much awaited the first of three sequels to the original "Avatar" film hits theaters. The three sequels are due to start filming next month and will be shot simultaneously. The first sequel will be released sometime in December 2016, while the other two will hit the big screen in 2017 and 2018.
Several websites noted that Cameron's statement means that he is supremely confident in his abilities to deliver a series of blockbusters that will rival the original film. Cameron also notes that he is planning to film the sequels at 48FPS and has abandoned plans to film it using 60FPS, which is better suited for TVs.
Even though Cameron is using a slower frame rate, he hints that the sequels will be visually astounding as they will show the oceans of the other satellites orbiting Polyphemus and further explore the rainforest on Pandora.
However, the sequels will still focus on the principle characters of the first film, Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and will even show how their family has grown. As for the rest of the characters, two major players who were presumed dead in the original "Avatar" film are due to return. This was announced last year when Sigourney Weaver, who played Dr. Grace Augustine, and Stephen Lang, who played Colonel Miles Quaritch, signed up for the upcoming three sequels.
Cameron is famous for creating blockbusters and has two of the highest grossing films to his credit, "Titanic" and "Avatar."
However, he was provided with huge budgets for each and even managed to overshoot the budget for "Titanic" by 100 percent. But when "Titanic" and "Avatar" hit the theaters they each went on to earn over $2 billion worldwide. "Avatar" is currently the biggest film of all time with a gross of nearly $2.7 billion.
