'Avatar 2' news: Scheduled for release in December 2017?

Fans of "Avatar" are still debating on the release date for the film's sequel, with an official release date yet to be confirmed. Word on the street is that the upcoming "Avatar 2" will give more focus to the relationship of Jake Sully with Neytiri.
The record-breaking fantasy epic film by James Cameron who also directed "Titanic," was reported to have started production when spring started. As the film is currently in the works, Sam Worthington reprises his role as Jake Sully alongside Zoe Saldana who plays the character of Neytiri. The first installment of the film explored their romantic relationship, and "Avatar 2" will show a progress between the two, moving on to build a family of their own.
The Montreal Gazette got a chance to interview the award-winning director, and he was generous enough to give away some details regarding the film. "Christmas of '17 is the target," Cameron confirmed. "At least, that's what we've announced. But I don't consider that to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart. I call it a meta-narrative that runs across the three movies. Each film stands alone, but it also tells one much larger story," he added.
The Canadian filmmaker also shared the film's preparation that spanned for two years. "Avatar," which was released last 2009 was such a hit, that it set a high benchmark for the upcoming sequel. "We have design more or less finished, which is an enormous task. It's been about a two-year task. (We've finished) all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see. The writing is ongoing, but almost finished. Technical development is done. Stages are done. Infrastructure. So we're really poised to start after the first of the year," Cameron explained.
According to reports, "Avatar 2" is slated to hit the big screen on December 2017. Additionally, if all plans go accordingly, fans can expect a follow-up "Avatar 3" in 2018 and 'Avatar 4' in 2019. Regardless of how long the movie production will take, fans will surely anticipate yet another box-office hit from James Cameron.
