'Attack on Titan' Season 2 release date, plot update: Number of episodes still unconfirmed; Story to focus on origin of Titans?
Fans all over the world have been waiting for the next chapter of hit anime series "Attack on Titan." It has been a long time since the first season concluded and more conflicts and revelations can be expected as the new pages of the story open. As of the meantime, a lot of "Attack on Titan" followers are expecting that Season 2 will be airing sometime this year with an alleged list of upcoming anime shows in 2016 being released. Also, the story of Season 2 will likely pick up the revelation of the Titans' origin as in the manga series.

Wit Studios, the successful company distributor behind the mega-hit anime show, is rumored to release "Attack on Titan" Season 2 this year along with another popular anime series, "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress." The news broke when a Twitter user with the alias "Shonen_lord" posted a screenshot photo that shows the list of all upcoming anime series to be released by Wit Studios this year, the MNRDaily reported. Since the screenshot was posted on April 23, a lot of fans have read the list and were delighted by the wonderful news. However, it was not indicated in the list how many episodes "Attack on Titan" Season 2 will have.
Online reports have noted that the last arc in the "Attack on Titan" manga series has tackled the worsening political situation in X, where a much-kept secret of the government is slowly laid bare to the public that will link them to the existence of the ferocious Titans. This conspiracy on the origin of the Titans is likely to be the main focus of Season 2, as it was the last story arc shown in the manga when the anime series went into a years-long hiatus.
However, the same report from Yibada cited a few reports in the past that may suggest Season 2 to premiere in 2017, instead of this year. It was mentioned by the "Attack on Titan" creator and director themselves, Hajime Isayama and Tetsuro Araki. According to them, the manga series must be ahead of the anime by at least four story arcs before the anime series can proceed with the production. Also, it has been reported that the second season has just started the production this year, and it appears unlikely that the final version of the new episodes will be released within this year.
