The highly anticipated season 2 of the anime series adaptation, "Attack on Titan" was initially slated to come out in 2016 by Wit Studio. However, new reports suggest that the show will not be back until next year. This latest development has disappointed many fans who believe that the second season is already overdue.

The reports came from SelectaVision, a Spanish distributor, which said that the season 2 of the "Attack on Titan" will most likely have a premiere schedule in January 2017. During an interview with Mision Tokyo, the original publisher of the series, Kodansha, confirmed the speculations.

According to a report by Tech Times, it is speculated that the reason for the delay is due to the producers' insufficient materials, which is supposed to cover the whole season 2 of the TV show. The publication added that Kodansha doesn't like the idea to create a new original storyline, which will differ from the manga series.

However, Christian Today reported that it is still unconfirmed if the delay includes the International market or just the Spanish release of the show. Nonetheless, it is speculated by many fans that the January 2017 release relates to the season launch of the anime in Japan.

Meanwhile, it is reported that another reason that could possibly cause the delay of the franchise's second season is the arrival of several anime series today. According to Movie News Guide, the show's creator, Wit Studio, is apparently focusing more on the other anime shows such as the "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress." The new show, which premiered in April 2016, is also being directed by "Attack on Titan" director Tetsuro Araki.

It is said that the new series only consists of 12 episodes, which could be why they are giving more priority to that compared to the second season of "Attack on Titan."

Fans are still waiting for more official details coming from the creator, which has continued to stay mum regarding the issue.
