'Attack on Titan' release date, spoilers: Series to return in May; Features Colossal vs. Armored Titan, Annie's comeback
The new chapter of the widely popular manga series "Shingeki no Kyojin," also known in English as "Attack on Titan," will be released during the first week of May on the Japan-based Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. This will give the avid fans more time to recover from the intense confrontations and dilemmas the main characters have faced in Chapter 80.
To recap, the battle between two human groups, the Survey Corps forces and the Homeland's Warriors is still escalating in the heart of Shiganshina district. The outcome of this fight will affect the future of mankind as the Survey Corps must protect the Coordinate in possession of Eren against the Warriors.
Commander Erwin Smith had previously initiated a recon mission to retrieve an item left by Grisha Yeager to Eren, which they believe contains all the answers that will explain the existence of the titans and the long lost history of the world. However, the Warriors is against the plan to open the item and will continue to fight the SC forces until they reclaim it.
Commander Smith, seeing that the Warriors' forces have been overwhelming his troops, came up with a suicide mission so that the Warrior's leader Zeke, in his Ape titan form, will be distracted and give Levi Ackerman the perfect timing to kill the ruthless beast.
However, Levi's own squad are facing problems of their own as the Colossal Titan, or Bertolt Hoover as a human, is still menacing the group. They slammed the Colossal Titan against the top of the wall, but the fierce titan started marching towards the wall again to dump burning rubbles at the location where the SC forces are stationed. A team composed of Jean, Mikasa, Sasha, Connie and Armin attempted to take down the Colossal Titan by using their secret weapon called the Thunderspear. Unfortunately, the steam coming out of Colossal Titan's body had caused problems in landing the fatal weapon to his body. Aside from the failed attempt to defeat one strong titan, another threat in the form of the Armored Titan has emerged. As the Armored Titan is back to his complete form, the SC forces will be facing a bigger threat in the next chapter of "Shingeki no Kyojin."
Yibada weighed in to the discussion about what to expect in Chapter 81. The website pointed out that if the rumors were true that the "Return to Shiganshina" arc will be the manga series' final chapter, a returning major character could be expected, like the infamous Female Titan, also known as Annie Leonhardt. Annie's return would be the best way to tie all loose ends, and it would also be interesting to know which side she would choose.
The manga series' anime counterpart, "Attack on Titan," has not yet confirmed the premiere of its second season as the production team of the anime series would want to see the manga series ahead of at least four chapters before the anime resumes, MoviePilot reported.
