'Arrow' season 5 spoilers: Training for Team Arrow's new recruits begins in episode 2; EP talks Oliver's new role as city mayormayor

The training for Team Arrow's newest recruits begins in the upcoming episode of The CW's hit superhero drama "Arrow" season 5.

Titled "The Recruits," Oliver's (Stephen Amell) new recruits for Team Arrow will include Curtis (Echo Kellum), Wild Dog (guest star Rick Gonzalez) and Evelyn Sharp (guest star Madison McLaughlin). Unfortunately for them, the Green Arrow's training methods will be too much for some of them to handle. Meanwhile, the flashbacks will continue to feature Oliver's initiation into the Bratva.

Back in season 4, Oliver had broken his one rule and killed Damien Dahrk (Neal McDonough). He eventually decided to alienate himself from two of his teammates: Thea Queen (Willa Holland) and  John Diggle (David Ramsey). This led the two characters to quit the superhero life and return to being ordinary civilians. When the show's fifth season picked up last Wednesday, Oliver is now operating as the Green Arrow on his own, years after being with a team. Aside from being a superhero, he is the current mayor of Star City.

Speaking with Variety, executive producer Wendy Mericle revealed how Oliver will start to handle things after being elected as mayor. According to the EP, viewers will see him in a different light this season as he tries to solve the city's most pressing problems.

"He's sort of not dealing with it at all," she said. "He went into it with very big ambitions, but we come to find in the premiere that those ambitions ran into reality and, for the time being, the most effective way he can help the city is by being the Green Arrow. Over the season we're going to evolve that. We haven't seen him in a real-job capacity since Season 2 and now that he's grown up a bit and evolved as a character, it's fun to see him tackle these real-world problems."

The fifth season of "Arrow" airs every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
