Apple Watch 2 specs rumors: Features to anticipate in the next-gen smartwatch

With Apple still not releasing any update on a chance of an Apple Watch 2 arriving very soon, the rumor mill continues buzzing as to what the features of the smartwatch will be.

APPLE

In terms of the Apple Watch 2's design, Wareable asked for the opinion of watch designer Daniel Will-Harris, whose timepieces are sold through New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim. Harris described the first generation of the smartwatch as "kind of homely and looked like a science project from the '90s." When asked about what improvements the Watch 2 should have, he said, "I want them to actually want it to look beautiful. And, yes, the whole digital crown thing was complicated, unnecessary and dirt catching, like the Apple Mouse scroll ball that always stopped working. I'd like to see improvements in the original's typography too, with its sloppy, amateurish kerning (spaces between numbers on the watch)."

There are also speculations about a health sensor feature for the Watch 2. However, UX designer Daniel Matte who previously collaborated with Apple believes it is still far from reach. "I know many people ask about non-invasive glucose monitoring, but even though Apple has researched this area with great interest, it's extremely unlikely that there will be any viable solutions in the next few years. Any advancement would certainly be a real breakthrough if so," he stated.

Rumor has it that a FaceTime camera will be one of the features of Watch 2 as well, reports say. The new FaceTime camera might be placed into the top bezel of the Apple Watch 2, however, Macworld says that "we're not too sure how many people would actively FaceTime via a Watch."

MacRumors recently picked up information from Taiwanese source Commercial Times, which claimed an Apple Watch 2 production in Quanta's factories that kicked off during the end of January. As the sole manufacturer of the first-gen Apple Watch, it made sense that the Taiwanese company Quanta will be commissioned again for future wearable devices.

Unlike the other Apple devices rumored to be released in time for Apple's first media event this year, the Apple Watch 2's arrival is yet to be known.
