Apple iWatch Release Date News: Gold Apple Watch Could Be Priced At $5,000

There is no news yet on when exactly the Apple Watch will hit stores although most believe the new smartwatch will be released early in 2015, but there is more information about the watch's gold version. The news about the 18-karat rose gold and the yellow-gold versions indicate that they could be priced at around $5,000.

During the announcement of the Apple Watch, it was stated that the entry level version named the Apple Watch Sport would be priced at $350. Although the price is pretty steep for a watch, it matches the premium price that Apple often attaches to it products.

A French blog has reported that the rose gold and the yellow gold version of the Apple Watch would be priced somewhere between $4,000 to $5,000. Earlier rumors had pegged the price of the gold versions at a vastly lower sum of $1,200.

Time has analyzed the rumors surrounding the pricing of the Apple Watch, noting that solid 18K gold watches manufactured by luxury brands retail for about $10,000 to $30,000. This price is more than what Apple is rumored to be charging for the Apple Watch which could contain a much lesser quantity of gold. Currently 18K gold is trading at $858 per ounce and this price will be factored into the pricing of the Apple Watch.

When comparing the Apple Watch to other luxury watch brands, Time notes that the Apple Watch will not be worth much after a few years, as the technology will be outdated. On the other hand, a high quality luxury watch would retain much of its original value over the years.

So while the gold version of the Apple Watch might catch the imagination of the wealthy and fashion conscious, it will have to be frequently replaced with another. This could be one reason why some rumors surrounding the Apple Watch state that its chip will be designed to be replaced with better ones at some future time.
