Apple iWatch News: Smartwatch Out In April 2015 As Doubts On Its Success Linger

Two versions of the Apple Watch | APPLE

Last week Apple announced its earnings report for the last quarter of 2014, which saw a huge increase in profits. CEO Tim Cook used the occasion to announce that the Apple Watch would start shipping in April.

In promoting Apple's latest personal gadget, Cook said he is already using an Apple Watch. He described it as essential to his daily routine, saying "I use it every day, love it and cannot live without it." He added that the company's expectations for the watch are high.

Market analysts likewise predict a rosy future ahead for the Apple Watch. Trip Chowdhry, who works for Global Equities Research, even predicted that it will become Apple's "most successful product ever" and sell over 40 million units in the first year of its launch.

However, not a few people have cast doubt on the predicted success of the Apple Watch. They noted that in order for the watch to work, it will have to be paired with an iPhone 5 or its higher grade successor. They said this is a factor that could limit the sale of the Apple Watch as many people are still using older iPhones particularly the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s.

There have also been concerns voiced about the watch's battery life. Earlier this month it was said that the Apple Watch would not be able to last for 19 hours and would have to be recharged daily. As for people who use the device heavily or use it to track their exercise they will only be able to get three to four hours of battery life from it.

Finally on the price of the watch, the baseline model is expected to be priced at $349. Apple has advertised that there will be a number of watch straps that can be used with the device. Apple also plans to launch a rose gold and yellow gold edition of the watch. Rumors indicate that either of these two versions could be priced at $5,000.
