Apple iOS 8.1.1 Bug Fixes, Features For Old Devices, More Functionality For New Ones

The new iOS 8.1.1 rolled out by Apple is being described by many as essential for old devices such as the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. Newer devices also stand to benefit from better battery life and bug fixes that this release provides.
Older devices such as the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S have had issues over the years when updating to newer iOS versions. A major problem noticed by many was the slow operation of these devices when iOS 7 was installed last year. Also when updating to iOS 8 old devices took a bad hit in terms of speed and performance which has not been addressed by Apple so far.
This new release by Apple aims to fix all issues that users of aging products face and at the same time bring more functionality to newer devices.
Also included in the release is a fix to Wi-Fi and battery life problems that users of old devices have been facing since they upgraded to iOS 8. These issues were mostly reported by iPhone 5S and iPad Air users and it led to fewer people upgrading to the iOS 8 than those who upgraded to the iOS 7.
Forbes notes that Apple might be downplaying this release but it is in fact quite extensive as it was released to developers two weeks earlier. This shows that the release is important and is the only patch in company's history that was seeded to developers ahead of its actual release date.
As for Apple they have not explained how and what improvements have been made. But it is clear that the company has invested significant time and effort to ensure that the update does not fail like iOS 8.1 which was recalled soon after being released. This recall happened because many users started reporting that their calls got dropped while other noted that their Touch ID sensor for fingerprints had stopped working.
