'Ant-Man' Release Date, Cast News: Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd Confirmed

An insect-size superhero is set to join the Marvel universe with the upcoming release of the "Ant-Man" in July 2015.

"Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world," according to the plot of the movie as reported by IMDB.

Ant-Man is played by two actors. The original Ant-Man is Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), while the actor who will actually don the "Ant-Man" suit is Paul Rudd, who plays the role of Scott Lang, a petty thief who finds the Ant-Man formula created by Pym and then presumably uses it.

The cast of the film also includes Evangeline Lilly who plays Hope Van Dyne, Hank Pym's daughter. Corey Stoll plays the role of Darren Cross who in the film adopts the persona of Yellowjacket. He is the nemesis of Ant-Man and Pym in particular. In the film he is expected to steal the formula from Pym, then design the "Yellowjacket" suit and use it for his own selfish purposes.

The development of "Ant-Man" started in 2006. Since then the film has been put on hold at least once. Filming finally started in August this year and has been taking place in several states in the U.S.

After filming commenced, there have been rumors that Hayley Atwell will be included in the cast. Inquisitr also recently reported that Atwell will be going to Atlanta to join the filming. Atwell has played the role of Peggy Carter in the Captain America film franchise and could be playing the same role in the "Ant-Man."

Rumors have also been swirling that Pym will be shown attending a meeting sometime in the past along with Howard Stark, a younger Alexander Pierce and Peggy Carter. If this is true then the upcoming Ant-Man film and others down the road might eventually tie into the huge Marvel superhero film franchise. This franchise currently includes Iron Man, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films and is expanding to include a film about Doctor Strange.
