The Android VR headset is one of the hottest topics in the tech world today. With rumors circulating that its release will happen this year, many fans are excited about it. Latest reports suggest that the upcoming device will be unveiled at the Google I/O Developers Conference.

According to reports, the Android VR is included on the Google Play Developer Console, which gave fans and critics reasons to believe that the company is gearing up for its upcoming release.

Android Police reported that users who log into the Google Play Developer Console see the device along with others such as Android Auto, Android TV and Android Wear. However, the device appears to be a placeholder as of the moment as the icon that represents it could not be clicked.

If rumors prove to be true, it will be pretty exciting next week for tech freaks.

The former Editor of Engadget and the current EIR at Betaworks, Peter Rojas, said last week on his Twitter that Android VR is definitely coming. However, he noted that fans should not expect more from it as it will not be as powerful as HTC's Vive or the impressive Oculus Rift.

"Android VR will definitely be announced next week, and from what I've heard will be less powerful than the Vive or Rift," Rojas wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Wall Street Journal also revealed in February that Google is planning to release a VR headset any time soon. It is said to be an independent device that does not really require users to connect it to a smartphone or computer to make it work.

The publication also added that it may take some time before consumers can get their hands on this device because the company plans to run it on the upcoming Android N.

As of now, fans will have to wait for Google to officially announce the Android VR headset before making assumptions.
